Search by Job FAQ

1. What is Search by Job?

Search by Job is a new feature designed to simplify candidate searches by automatically generating a powerful search string based on a live job post. In just two clicks, you’ll receive a list of the most relevant candidates, saving you time and eliminating the need to manually build Boolean search queries.

2. How do I use Search by Job?

It’s simple! Navigate to the Candidate Search page, click on Search by Job and then select your job advert. Within seconds, a search string will be generated based on the job's key skills, and you’ll be presented with a list of top-matching candidates.

3. What kinds of jobs can I use with Search by Job?

Search by Job is particularly effective for roles in finance and technology sectors. It uses proprietary algorithms and our Financial Services Data Model to accurately match candidates based on industry-specific key skills, seniority, and job titles.

4. Do I need to manually input any search criteria?

No, Search by Job automatically pulls key skills, as well as recognised specialisms, activities and levels, from your selected job advert and generates the search string for you. However, if you wish to refine the results further, you can apply additional keywords, Boolean logic, or filters.

5. Can I modify the search after using Search by Job?

Yes! While the initial results are generated automatically, you can enhance the search by adding filters to further refine the candidate list according to your specific needs. We are working on introducing keyword and Boolean refinements in our next iterations.

6. Why can’t I select some jobs for Search by Job?

If your role can’t be selected, it is because we are unable to recognise the job title or the skills in your job advert. We are continuing to update our Financial Services Data Model and expect to have even more coverage in the future.

7. What if I don’t get the candidates I’m looking for?

If you’re not satisfied with the initial results, you can always refine your search using Boolean logic, filters, or additional keywords. You can also adjust the job advert’s key skills to better align with the specific requirements of the role. If you have feedback for us, please reach out to Matt at [email protected] to share your thoughts and suggestions.

8. Do I need special training to use Search by Job?

Not at all! Search by Job is designed to be intuitive. If you can select a job post, you can use this feature with ease. There’s no need for Boolean search expertise.

9. Can I use Search by Job for multiple roles at the same time?

Search by Job works on one job post at a time. You can quickly repeat the process for different roles by selecting another job and running a new search.

10. Is Search by Job available for all users?

Search by Job is available to all users who have access to our Candidate Search page and have access to their company’s live jobs postings. If you don’t see the option and would like access, please contact your account manager or reach out to [email protected].

11. What are the benefits of using Search by Job?

Timesaving: No need to manually create complicated Boolean searches to look for similar job titles or a long list of skills.

Increased accuracy: Uses key skills, recognised specialisms and types of roles from the job advert to deliver candidate matches.

Ease of use: You can generate a candidate list in just two clicks, with options to further refine the results.

12. Who can I contact for help or support?

13. Can I provide feedback on Search by Job?

14. Where can I learn more about Boolean search and filters?

For a detailed guide on how to use Boolean logic effectively check out our Boolean Search Guide.

15. Why did Search by Job return 0 results?

If you have selected a role for Search by Job but it has returned 0 results, it will be because we have been able to successfully create a search but can’t find any relevant candidates currently. This could be due to very specific skill sets or the geographic location of the job. In an instance like this, you may want to expand your search to include more locations, or create a Resume Search Alert or TalentMatch to be the first to discover a matching candidate when they come on-site.
